Savor Louisiana dining at its finest at fresh Louisiana seafood restaurants, Cajun cafés and home-style diners. Our Spanish and French heritage infuses our world-renowned Cajun and Creole cuisine with a unique flavor. Asian food is also a favorite as the area is home to one of America’s largest Laotian populations. BIRDING Louisiana's coast in Iberia Parish has the perfect combination of wetlands, seed and soil to welcome rare and beautiful birds into its shoreland. The warm temperatures and location within the southern migratory flyway, means more than 240 species have been documented here. James Lee Burke Anyone who is familiar with James Lee Burke and his fictional character, detective Dave Robicheaux, knows of New Iberia and our fascinating blend of heritage, hospitality and history. Burke spent his summers in New Iberia with relatives, playing and fishing in the many water holes that populate the area. His family's hometown is clearly very dear to him, as evidenced by the prominent part that his fictionalized version of New Iberia plays in each of his novels. Burke says his favorite place in New Iberia is Main Street, where his grandfather once lived. The Main Street that Burke describes as the most beautiful in the country is just part of the attraction of New Iberia, a city which has "southern manners and at the same time is a first-name kind of place." Dave Robicheaux’s descriptions of the area give Burke’s readers a small taste of what New Iberia is like. WHERE TO STAY Why don’t you stay for a while in Iberia Parish? Our accommodations range from comfortable hotels with full amenities, to cozy bed and breakfast cottages along lazy bayous, in a lush tropical garden or on an award-winning main street. Enjoy camping or cabins in the midst of nature with fishing, birding, boating, biking and hiking opportunities. Savor the difference. Iberia Parish
