Things to Do in Baton Rouge Between Parades
While you're hanging out in Baton Rouge celebrating Mardi Gras, make sure you have something to do with your down time between parades! Here are our top picks for things to do while you wait.
1. Hollywood Casino
If you're traveling without the kids, Hollywood Casino is a great stop to take a break and play for a little while. Rest your feet from standing at the parades at one of their Vegas-style slots or table games. If you are traveling with a few little ones in tow, the Epic Buffet is a great option to rest for a while and grab a bite to eat! See all the things you can enjoy at Hollywood Casino here.
2. Acme Oyster House
While Acme Oyster House isn't exactly something to do, it's always something I recommend to my friends visiting Baton Rouge! Their oysters are especially delicious whether you choose to enjoy them raw, grilled, or fried. The gumbo at Acme is also top notch! Explore the other tasty options at the restaurant here.
3. A Few Baton Rouge Museums
Baton Rouge is filled with history. While you're in town experiencing the city and local culture, take a step back and discover more of its history. The Old State Capitol, the West Baton Rouge Museum, and the Capitol Park Museum are a few of our favorites--two of which are located in Downtown Baton Rouge!
4. One of BREC's Parks
BREC has more than 180 in parks in the Baton Rouge area including a state-of-the-art observatory, a swamp nature center and conservation areas, a performing arts theatre, an equestrian park, an art gallery, an arboretum, and a plantation home. Whichever park you choose, you'll have a quiet moment to relax before enjoying more of the Mardi Gras celebrations!
Since it is a holiday, double check business hours before you venture out.
If you're looking for a place to stay in the Downtown area, we'd recommend starting this these hotels. There are lots of parades happening this weekend and next in and around Baton Rouge, so you'll certainly be busy!
