Shake Your Trail Feather Festival: St. Martin Parish
There’s no shortage of festivals in South Louisiana during the fall season, but the uniqueness of The TECHE Project’s “Shake Your Trail Feather Festival” will make you want to experience it.
Where else can you paddle down a bayou accompanied by a floating Cajun band, and arrive in time for a free music festival on the banks of one of the most beautiful spots in South Louisiana (Parc du Pont in historic Breaux Bridge)? Boats are available for rent or you can bring your own.
If paddling is not your thing, then you can spend the afternoon enjoying awesome music by Sabra and the Get Rights, Sweet Cecilia, and The Pine Leaf Boys. Come sit on the bank of the Teche under a majestic live oak and take in great music, or come dance along-side the band on a moored circa 1860 bridge. You’ll literally be dancing on the water!
Bike excursions, kid’s activities, artisans, expert talks on the Ecology of Bayou Teche, live animals, free plants, a kayak raffle, and a “Best Bird” costume contest are all part of the fun.
Proceeds go toward building the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, the first Department of the Interior designated National Water Trail in Louisiana! The TECHE Project non-profit group manages the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail and they are working hard to build trail amenities on 130 miles of Bayou Teche. They also volunteer to keep the bayou free of trash, with over 50 tons removed so far!
This festival is a great time for a great cause, so come “Shake Your Trail Feather” with us! Join us on October 22 at the Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux – the Bridge Park in Breaux Bridge - from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm.
