Murder Mysteries & Blue Dogs on the Bayou: Iberia Parish

If there were only two things essential to Cajun culture, they would be good food and a good story.  Want the best of both worlds? Iberia Parish is the place to be this spring!

The world-famous literary legacy Detective Dave Robicheaux, created by author James Lee Burke, is coming home to New Iberia. Anyone who is familiar with Burke or the Detective Robicheaux character has heard details of the ins and outs of the Iberia Parish area and its intriguing mix of history, mystery, and Southern hospitality, which Burke frequently references throughout his novels.  Burke is one of only two authors ever to have won two Edgar Awards. His novel The Lost Get Back Boogie was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

The official “Dave Robicheaux's Hometown Literary Festival: Celebrating Storytellers from Iberia & Beyond” will be held March 31 - April 2, 2017.  Literature lovers can see the locations James Lee Burke wrote about, visit Books Along the Teche on Main Street, and purchase autographed copies of his books (including signed first editions). All the while, you can enjoy the activities, events, food, and music.

While you’re in town, also be sure to stop by the Bayou Teche Museum to view the must-see, spectacular, and now permanent, George Rodrigue Exhibit. The exhibit will feature many of Rodrigue’s paintings, but the most interesting – and poignant – aspect will be the reconstruction of his Carmel studio within the museum. Visitors will be able to glimpse the workspace of this deeply beloved local artist, including the painting left unfinished by his early passing that is displayed on the very easel on which he worked.

As you travel along the southern coast of Louisiana, cruise through Iberia in style with “Cruisin Cajun Country Cruise” during May.  A fine mix of classic and muscle cars will roll through Iberia, St. Martin, and St. Mary Parishes. Cruisin Cajun Country is a non-profit organization that provides free car shows and promotes the preservation of classic, muscle, antique, and modern sports vehicles. At each stop, the cars will be on display, and there will be food, fun, and music for everyone.

As the weather turns, you will find plenty to do in Iberia Parish. Visit for all the latest.
